Mine got ylod couple of months ago while playing red dead redemption go to this website they will fix it for £60, 100%.
best of all is you get one years warranty if ylod returns they will repair it again for free. only a couple of days to fix it.

dont fret man my 3 year old 60gb died on me 2 weeks ago and i did the repair all by myself and it worked perfectly. go to youtube and look up the gilsky YLOD repair and follow it. also G-rey has an excellting FAQs thread about this problem. just get it in your head that you need to break down the ps3, fix it, then put it back together.

ABSOLUTELY try to fix it. I wrote a guide for us here and it will help you at least figure out if you will be able to do it or not.
Mine worked for several weeks, I had to re-flow it twice but I now I have a new PS3 Slim. On a long enough timeline, everyone seems to agree that yes, you will need to replace a YLOD PS3. Mine still works, but it's failed twice, and eventually it probably will get the YLOD again.
But at least with the guide you can repair it and get your game saves. Really it's just a matter of disassembling the PS3 and heating some parts up, then putting it back together. Simple!
If you have any questions, leave me a visitor message! Good luck!

If you haven't opened it then you can trade it in for 119 to sony for the slim, that is what i just did. I sent mine in and traded it for a slim which i am just as happy with because i don't have any ps2 or ps1 games, nor did i ever use the media slots.
