Mercenaries Inc. Was Pandemic’s Next Game, Cancelled This Month

Pandemic Studios is officially shut with over 200 employees being shown the door. The fate of The Saboteur is thankfully not jeopardized, but another project – one that may have found more resonance with gamers – has been. This was Pandemic’s latest sequel to the Mercenaries franchise, touted as a multiplayer sandbox game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, called Mercenaries Inc.

He also provided real time demo footage for the game, intended as a pitch, stating: “This was the first demo for Mercenaries Incorporated. Pandemic Studios next multiplayer sandbox game. Too bad it was cancelled.” Which is a real shame, given how the Mercs franchise was always beloved for it’s destructibility and open world nature of completing missions (though the second game recieved a less than stellar reception from critics). The project was recently cancelled and there’s no word from EA on continuing development.

as glitchy as i found mercs 2 i really did enjoy the whole game experience. for me it was battlefield bad company and GTAs love child

+1. Playing Mercs 2 at the moment, yeah the graphics are a little below par but the gameplay is quality. It's better than the 5 Gamespot gave it.

oh shit that sucks, any reason why pandemic was shut down? I love the Mercenaries franchise the video looks like i would have been a fun game

I hope someone else picks it up (hopefully a good developer so they don't ruin the name (i.e. Slant6 vs Zipper Int. lol)

As long as the Saboteur is coming out I couldn't care. Mercs 2 and LOTR Conquest weren't great and Mercs Inc doesn't look too promising anyway...

LOTR: Conquest was made by Pandemic? That's an oddly bad game for them... But they did Destroy All Humans, so they can be forgiven for one dud game.

This is the first I have heard about Mercenaries Inc. Glad it's getting picked up by another company, if that is true. Happy also that The Saboteur isn't sabotaged(), and that it's still going to come out. Sad that there may be no more Destroy All Humans though. Poor Pandemic Studios....

EA is closing some of their studios because they want to save some money, but I heard somewhere EA is developing the games of the closed studios further, so the games will come out some day!

I'm just glad BioWare wasn't taken with them. Cuz remember, they merged a few years back. But not even EA would be that evil. It would be like if ActiBlizzard took down IW. Anyhoo, this looks awesome just because it could've been the game to redeem Pandemic after Mercs 2.
