Default PS3 related softwares

well I haven't quite ventured to replacing either the OS or the HD quite yet in my ps3, so I use work arounds to accomplish some of the same things ...

I use TVersity - Home and sometimes MyCast your digital media with Orb 2.0 remote pc access software to stream music, video, photos from pc to ps3.

Have you guys used these? Is there other software that you guys use?

Has someone out there linux-ed their system? Any cool fun stuff you can do now that you'd like to share with the rest of us? You have anything fun or different that you use with your ps3, that you can't imagine living without now?

How else are you utilizing the gorgeous powerhouse?

Ask LinuxSteven, he knows the works of a Linux. And probably on a PS3. I think. Well, I'm not using my beatiful PS3 only for gaming. Not even for DVD's. I have a Blu-Ray Player next to my PS3. And honestly, truely, not lyng, the Blu-Ray Player has a menu that looks exactly like the PSP and PS3 but not as cool looking(moving background and smoother graphics), and it just has the ability to update and play DVDs and Blu-Ray.

ok, so I've got a huge collection of more than 500 DVD movies, tv shows, anime, all stuff I have legitimately purchased over the years since DVDs first came around ...

... now would it be technically considered illegal for me to copy or "rip" those movies onto a (couple) large hard drive(s)/server of sorts so that I could then stream to my PS3?

I'm not talking about broadcasting my collection to the public, but rather just to myself ... that should be acceptable yes?

no media industry should have the right to tell me that i cannot do that with my collection yes?

like burning your CDs to mp3s so i can listen to them on my ipod

Lol, that is totally believable. It's obvious you didn't pirate them because you said you got them on itunes

wolv if you own the media then it is legal to rip it. You simply can't share it or sell it.

Mike ... that's what I would think too ... but then, shouldn't this software be completely legal? I've never tried it, and i think there are probably a few free programs out there with similar features, but seeing the trial makes me wonder what the industry execs are thinking, where they want to draw the line of our rights as owners of these dvds. dvds get damaged, lost, eaten by the dog, there are lots of legitimate reasons to want to have a complete, preferably loss-less, back up ... and since the technology exists why not, right?

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/200...paa-realdvd-tr

reading the article ... and given recent events with pirate bay and past events of the like, i'd say legally it does not look to be getting any better quite yet for public copyright laws ... yet conversely the internet will always lend itself to the dispersal and sharing of information, media, ideas, culture, art,etc etc etc because that is precisely what it was created for

meh

yeah i've used my ps3 for a few things, mainly gaming, but i've recently been going to Home - Stagevu: Your View for all my movies and i usually just use my computer to get music and what not else... but on the stagevu site it offers a great selection of movies, naturally most is dvd ripped there are the not to annoying occurances where you get a crappy dload that is fuzzy s heck or the words don't move with there mouths but for the most part not.... the best part is you don't leave your computer running to dload them all and then have to transfer hem to the ps3... you can actually dload them just like you dload from the ps3 store... when you go to the site just find movie title you wish to watch either by search bar or just by going page by page... don't worry you'll never seem to get very far as there are some 800 something pages of movies.... and about 15 maybe 20 to a page... but when you find the title press X on the movie title from the list and it brings you to the next page showing a video screen where the movie would play but i dont recommend hitting play... it takes a long ass time to buffer... lmao... but next to the play icon on the movie screen you will see a download button... its as simple as pressing the triangle on the download button, then go to file, press X again and go down to save target.... a black window will then pop up like the ps3 store shows when you dload and you have the option to perform in the background.... note: its best to have a hard wired connection to your internet instead of using the wireless because if you tend to get booted offline after short periods of time the downloads will restart at 0% after getting booted offline unlike the ps3 store where they will resume at whatever percent it got booted offline at... but they have just upgraded the site so that the downloads are not as long as they used to be... i find a 400mb movie to take about 30-40 minutes tops and a 600-800mb movie takes between an hour and an hour and 15-20 minutes... they used to take about 2-4 hours.... but i hope this site brings you as much enjoyment as it has myself... have fun...
